Pakistan delivered a commanding performance to defeat India 3-0 in the men’s volleyball quarterfinal at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya on Thursday, ending India’s campaign in the knockout stage.
Pakistan secured the match 25-19, 25-23, 25-18 in 1 hour and 20 minutes, dominating with superior attacking efficiency, stronger blocking and more effective defensive play.
Pakistan set the tone from the opening set, converting 17 of 24 spikes at a 71% success rate compared with India’s 11 from 29. India improved in the second set and stayed within touching distance, but Pakistan held their nerve in the closing stages to take it 25-23.
The third set proved more comfortable for Pakistan. India saved one of eight match points, but a service error eventually handed Pakistan the decisive point as they wrapped up the set 25-18.
Pakistan finished with 50 successful spikes from 83 attempts at 61%, while India managed 33 from 81 at 41%. Pakistan also had the edge in blocking and defence, recording six blocks and 17 digs compared with India’s four blocks and seven digs.
Although India collected more points from Pakistan’s errors and narrowly led in serve points, Pakistan controlled the crucial moments to secure a straight-sets victory and book their place in the semifinals. India’s key players, including captain Jerome Vinith, Chirag Yadav and John Joseph, were unable to replicate their earlier group-stage impact against Pakistan’s disciplined and well-organised attack.
