India concluded their Asian Games 2026 campaign in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with a fourth-place finish in the overall medal standings, collecting a total of 85 medals.

The Indian contingent ended the Games with 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals. India finished behind China, hosts Japan and South Korea, while edging Uzbekistan for fourth place. India and Uzbekistan both won 21 gold medals, but India’s superior silver-medal tally of 27 compared to Uzbekistan’s 25 secured fourth position.

China topped the medal table with 341 medals, including 169 gold, while Japan finished second with 83 gold medals. South Korea took third place with 39 golds, followed by India in fourth.

India enjoyed a particularly strong finish to the Games. The contingent collected nine medals on the final day, including five golds, helping the country climb above Uzbekistan and secure a top-four finish.

Team events provided some of the biggest highlights of India's campaign. Both the men's and women's cricket teams won gold medals, while India also completed a double in kabaddi, with the men's and women's teams finishing on top of the podium. The men's and women's hockey teams also claimed gold medals.

Archery was another major success story. Kumkum Anil Mohod became the first Indian woman to win an individual recurve gold medal at the Asian Games, while India's women's recurve team ended South Korea's long-standing dominance in the event.

In shooting, Neeru Dhanda delivered a memorable campaign, ending India's 48-year wait for an Asian Games trap gold. She also partnered Kynan Chenai to win the mixed trap team title, with the pair setting an Asian record. Dhanda finished the Games with two gold medals and a silver and was chosen as India's flag-bearer for the closing ceremony.

India also celebrated success in boxing, wrestling and athletics. Lovlina Borgohain, Parveen Hooda and Ankush secured boxing gold medals, while Aman Sehrawat and Sujeet emerged victorious in men's freestyle wrestling. India's women's 4x400m relay team also raced to gold.

Despite finishing fourth, India's overall medal count was lower than the country's record-breaking performance at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou. India won 106 medals there, compared with 85 in Aichi-Nagoya. Nevertheless, the 2026 campaign produced several historic firsts and maintained India's position among the leading sporting nations in Asia.

The 20th Asian Games officially concluded in Nagoya on October 4, with the Asian Games flag and ceremonial torch handed over to representatives of Qatar ahead of the next edition in Doha in 2030.
