Harmanpreet Kaur has stepped down as India’s captain across all formats of the game. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held a review meeting of the Indian women’s team in Guwahati on Monday, attended by Harmanpreet, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and head coach Amol Muzumdar.
The meeting was chaired by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and came amid growing calls for a change in leadership, with questions being raised over Harmanpreet’s future as captain.
While India’s recent performances had provided plenty of positives to discuss regarding the team’s future, the meeting reportedly focused heavily on Harmanpreet’s captaincy and the position of head coach Muzumdar. Hours after the meeting, Harmanpreet announced her decision to resign as captain in all three formats.
